Subject: Moonlight Water Garden
She was awed at the sight of his magnificance – and a little embarassed about her ‘fretting’ earlier. Hesitantly, she spoke, ‘my name is Angelene, I’ve been watching you for a few months now – but I guess you know all of that’.
A smile seemed to be upon his face, a kind, wise smile. ‘Yes Angelene – I knew all of that’. Angelene was taken aback, startled – as she realised, the unicorn had spoken to her. ‘You spoke, you know how to talk’! ‘Yes, my child, I know how to speak your language and every other language in the entire universe. I can communicate with humans, animals, insects, birds, fish, frogs – anything, it is another gift I possess which enable me to help all living things’.
‘So why did you choose to show yourself to me, what is it you want’? The unicorn looked at her with such a great love, she thought her heart would melt. ‘It is not I who is wanting, my child, it is you. I am sent to bring you back to life, to inspire you to greater things’. ‘But I am alive’, she said, ‘what do you mean’?
‘Angelene, you are alive, but not fully alive, you’ve forgotten the joy, the magic of life. Your faith in life, in yourself, in magic, miracles and love has all but shrivelled to the size of a mustard seed. That’s why this whole place was created for you, that’s why I am here, to water and nuture that seed and make it grow, so you can become what you are meant to be and do what you are meant to do’.
Angelene was silent as multitudes of thoughts ran through her mind, could she ever regain the simple faith she had as a child? Could she ever feel the same joy for living? Could she ever trust anyone or anything again? What was she meant to be and do? Her thoughts were interupted by a stronger presence in her mind. The unicorn was speaking to her again.
‘Angelene, your 1st lesson is faith, I reminded you of it and you responded. You waited for me, you believed I existed and believed I would return. A child shows such natural faith in everything. As humans grow into adults, everyday living, stress, worry, pain, hurt and heartache, slowly chips away their childlike faith until it seems there is none left, it is at these times they need something to cling to, something to believe in’.
‘How can someone still have faith if they dont feel it’? Said Angelene. ‘That answer can be long and complex but simply stated, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen’. Let me put it this way, last night when you retired, did you go through a long process of convincing yurself to wake up this morning’? ‘No’, said Angelene, ‘I didn’t even think about it’. ‘Did you worry about whether you would continue to breathe during your sleep? When you reach to pick up an object, do you have to tell yourself to move your arms, legs, hands, fingers’? ‘No’, said Angelene, ‘but these are all just natural things, parts of our makeup and mobility – and besides – some people die during their sleep’. ‘Yes, my child, some people do pass on during their sleep, I however, believe they go to sleep in this world and wake up in another’.
‘You see, Angelene, it’s all a matter of faith, have we proven to ourself that the world is round? That there are other planets and an entire universe out there? How do you know I’m not just a figment of your imagination, as others would tell you? Do fairies exist? Can humans communicate with animals?
It’s a beautiful, mystical world Angelene, whatever the mind can conceive and believe, can be acheived. Our ’senses’ go beyond the physical realm into the great unknown, as does our mind, as does our faith and this faith goes hand in hand with trust – which is lesson number two.
Trust is an extension of faith. Trust is a strong belief in someone or something. Trust is believing we’ll continue breathing as we sleep, that when we wish to pick up a pen, we can. Trust is relying on someone to do as they say, to be what they portray. Both faith and trust can be manipulated, used and abused – so people can and do get hurt – but if applied to ourselves they can bring about enormous change and good.
Our faith and trust must be in the magic of creation, the belief that all things are possible, in ourselves and our dreams, the mysteries of the universe and its natural and supernatural laws.
These are the things we can trust and have faith in Angelene, then we can apply them to ourselves and then go on to help others learn these truths. This is what you have been chosen for Angelene, to help me share these secrets to those who have little faith. This can be a hard task, so there must be no doubt in your heart, go home, think about what I have said, come again tommorrow night and let me know your answer, it is a choice, Angelene – and only you can choose’.
With that he was gone, vanished into the mist rising from the water. ‘Where did you go, unicorn’?, she said, as she looked into the mist. She heard in her mind, a soft, gentle voice saying, ‘go home, daughter of the universe, go home’.
Angelene turned to face the winding path she knew would lead her home and as she did she suddenly saw tiny fairies hovering just ahead. ‘Follow us, child, we shall lead you home’. They flew on ahead, so all she could do was follow. ‘Wait’, she cried out, as they turned along the winding path. ‘Wait for me’.
The end of the path came too quickly. When she thought she was just about to reach them, the fairies dissappeared. In front of her was her home, she knew there was nothing else to do but go inside and think about all she had heard and learnt.
She had a decision to make, was it all in her mind? Angelene went inside and made herself some warm milk, she climbed the stairs to her room realising she was too tired to think about all this tonight, so she decided she would think about it tommorrow and get some sleep.

Name: The Moonlight Water Garden.
The moon was bright and full. Excitedly, she ran down the winding path, heading to the secret water garden she had found a few months ago. ‘I wonder if I’ll see him tonight, I wonder if he’ll come’… The path widened and there before her was the magical hideaway.
The fountain spurted water up to the full, white moon, which in return, shone through the water, giving it the appearance of a beautiful, crystal spring. She was elated by it’s mystical serenity, she looked quickly to the other side of the water garden but he was not there, she decided to wait, as she had before, she sat upon the smooth, grassy bank – ‘he had to return’ – she thought to herself, ‘why would he have bothered to show himself previously, if he wasn’t going to come again and show her what he wanted from her?’
There she sat by the waters edge, in the light of the full moon, quietly watching, quietly waiting, quietly hoping he would come. She heard the familiar sound, she smiled and looked lovingly, expectantly, to the other side of the moonlit pool. She saw his magical form approach the waters edge. Slowly, cautiously, he drank from the mystical waters.
The whiteness of his skins shimmering reflection dazzled her loving gaze, she squinted as her eyes adjusted. She knew he would come, she knew he would not fail to prove his existance, his loyalty, his faithfulness, once again. His strong, muscled form showed his prepardness for any situation – oh how she loved him…
In that instant, he lifted his head and looked across the water into her eyes – as if he had heard her thoughts – which of course, he had, for he is a creature of great mystical insight and capabilities, such as the telepathic ability to communicate with those he deemed worthy of his wisdom.
A feeling of great love and peace washed over her as he gazed into her eyes. She knew he was about to tell her something, she hushed her excitement so she could absorb his gentle, soothing thoughts. ‘Greetings, daughter of the universe, princess of peace, what a beautiful, mystical world we dwell within, what a magical place to be’.
She rose to her feet, her long golden hair shone in the moonlight, her long white gown ruffled around her ankles as she stood. ‘Come to me, son of Pegasus, gentle unicorn, teach me the secrets of the universe’.
Less than a second had passed, yet she wondered if he had heard her thoughts…’I am coming princess’, his thoughts had interupted her own, she smiled as she watched him wade through the moonlit water and as the water rose and his body submerged into its depths, she felt a little anxious.
‘Worry not my child, this is our first lesson, first test – do we have the faith to take the risk? Will we stand strong together on the same side, or will we give in to the fear and remain apart?’ Before she had time to answer, his body slowly emerged, water flowed off of his form, returning to its source, trickling into the pool as he waded toward her.
‘Lesson number one, daughter of the universe, have faith’.
